Vintage oval shaped brass Paan Daan is a traditional box for storing beetle leaves and condiments, handcrafted by artisans from the South of India.
The paan daan has a removable tray over the 4 round and one octa shaped containers and the base of the box is used for storing the beetle leaves.
The containers are meant for the traditional condiments that go into making of the paan like cardomom, sukhi or meethi supari , kathaa, cloves and the beetle nut leaves or paan leaves which are kept under this tray to keep them fresh.
Such Paan Daans can be found in most Indian households as paan is eaten through out the day mostly by the ladies / head of the family and not only offered to guests as a welcome gesture but also serves as a favourite past time while gossiping.
