Traditional Brass Lunch Tiffin Box With 2 Containers From Western India - Height 15 cm x Dia 13 cm
This is a vintage tiffin box or dabba handcrafted in brass and contains 2 compartments - 1 for the the Indian Bread / rice and the second for lentils or freshly made vegetables not forgetting handwritten messages in the small round container with a cover on the top lid ( meant for pickels ) from a loved one at home.
The word “Dabbawala” in the Indian language when literally translated, means “one who carries a box”. “Dabba” means a box (usually a cylindrical tin , brass or aluminium container). So, literaly speaking, a Dabba contains Lunch and as a tradition, is filled with love and caring of the housewives who make sure their loved ones get the healthy food from home as a typical Dabba changes hands 4 to 6 times in its journey...
Believe it or not, the dabbawalas of Bombay ( Mumbai ) who have been delivering lunches to working people since the last 125 years are recognised as delivering 6 sigma level of accuracy in their Dabba delivery ie which means only 1 mistake in 6 million deliveries.
