This is an exquisite pair of vintage brass oil lamp or Kuthu Vilakkus as they are traditionally called with a majestic peacock and 7 oil and wick spouts atop a round base, handcrafted by artisans from South India.
Mounted on an elegant circular base, the pillar of the lamp has been crafted with smooth curves and grooves displaying the artisans skill.
Such lamps or deepams are considered highly auspicious and can be found in most South Indian homes, traditionally handed down from one generation to the next, signifying as per the Hindu tradition, the moving from darkness of life into light bringing joy and prosperity to all.
Measures: Height of the lamps are : 37 cm and 36 cm with a diameter of 13 cm.
The peacock measures 9 cm.
Weight: 3.550 kilograms for the pair.
