Heritage Brass Sculpture Of Hindu Diety Shiva On Horse As Khandoba With Sword - 15 cm Tall

From our Heritage Collection - 18 cm tall brass sculpture of Shiva as Khandoba     (Martanda Bhairava or Malhari ) with a sword and a shield riding a magnificent horse is crafted by the most skilled artisans from Maharashtra using the centuries old lost wax method of metal casting. 

The finely sculptured Khandoba is the most popular Hindu deity worshiped as a manifestation of Shiva mainly in the Deccan plateau of India and is also the patron deity of select warrior, farming, herding and Brahmin (priestly) castes as well as several of the hunter/gatherer tribes that are native to the hills and forests of this region.

The worship of Khandoba, developed during the 9th and 10th centuries from a folk deity into a composite god possessing the attributes of Shiva, Bhairava, Surya and Karttikeya (Skanda), is depicted as an image of a warrior riding a horse.

This magnificent sculpture measures:
