Brass Lotas have used in India to store and serve water where water is tipped from the mouth of the vessel and also poured over the hands and feet to cleanse.

The traditional Indian wisdom of storing in brass vessels was meant for healthy living and Indians drank their water from brass pots till the beginning of 20th century using brass as a medium of storing and drinking water.

This is a design typical of the eighteenth century, now used by urbanites as an art deco item or vase and kept at a prominent place in the house with fresh flowers.
