Beautifully sculpted and chiselled by hand from single block of local wood with a natural walnut brown finish by skilled artisans from Tamil Nadu, South India, the word Dashavatara derives from Das, meaning’Ten’ and Avatar (avatra) meaning incarnation.
This exquisite wood carving refers to the the mythological story of the 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu who descend to the terrestrial world to establish stability and order, time and again.
The list of Dashavatara varies across sects and regions as Krishna, Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana, Parashurama, Sri Rama, Balarama and Kalki.
