This exquisite wood carving of Hindu diety Lakshmi - Goddess of wealth and prosperity is hand crafted in mango wood by skilled artisans from the state of Tamil Nadu, south India.
Lakshmi is the Hindu goddess of wealth, fortune and prosperity and is worshipped by all especially during the Indian festival of Deepavali - The festival of lights.
Wife and Shakti ( Energy) of Vishnu, one of the principal deities of Hinduism and the Supreme Being in the Vaishnavism Tradition, Lakshmi is also found in Jain temples and has also been a goddess of abundance and fortune for Buddhists seen represented on the oldest surviving stupas and cave temples of Buddhism in India and Southeast Asia.
Her four hands represent the four goals of human life considered important to the Hindu way of life – Dharma, Kama , Artha and Moksha protected by the mythical Yali see on top of the carving.
The Goddess Lakshmi is considered to be auspicious and can be found in most Indian homes in their temples / puja rooms and worshipped with flowers and lighting of the lamp during daily prayers for wealth and prosperity of all the members of the family.
