Varanasi is a sacred and oldest city of the world located at the banks of the holy River Ganges where aarti is performed daily in the evening by a group of priests at the Dashashwamedh ghat. Through the aarti, Agni Pooja is performed in which a commitment is made to the Lord Shiva, Mata Gange, Surya, Agni (Fire) as well as the whole universe made by the Lord Shiva.
The Gange aarti is a magnificent event during evening in the city of Varanasi and is performed by the brass lamps accompanied with the mantra chant in the presence of a huge crowd.
Aarti also spelled arti, arati, arathi, aarthi is basically a Hindu religious ritual of worship, a part of puja or prayer, in which light from wicks soaked in Ghee (purified butter) is offered to one or more dieties. Aartis also refer to the songs sung in praise of the deity, when lamps are being offered.
