Ashta Lakshmi are a group of eight manifestations of Devi Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth who presides over eight sources of wealth.
"Wealth" in the context of Ashta-Lakshmi means prosperity, good health, knowledge, strength, progeny, and power and are always depicted and worshipped in a group in temples.
From our Vintage Collection - 20 cm tall Vintage "Kamatchi Vilakku" or the Ashta Laksmi Oil lamp is hand crafted by skilled artisans from the South of India flanked by 2 beautiful peacocks and the engraving of Yali on top of the Villaku.
The Back of the Vilakku Lamp displays engraving of twin elephants worshipping the Gods in all their glory.
Before lighting, the lamp is traditionally decorated with flowers and other sacred items.
One can find the Kamatchi Vilakku or the Ashta Laksmi lamp owned by families for generations and preserved as a precious ornament. It is said that some families still continue to keep the Lamp burning from the time it was lit by their ancestors.
