This exclusive Vintage red "Kavaad" is an amazing folded wooden Hindu temple whose origin is more than 500 years old.
Displaying hinged panels and doors where each door when opened depicts colourful pictures and designand made from mango wood and then painted with vegetable dyes.
The story is then painted with a fine brush by the artisans for the master storytellers called "Kawariya bhats" who travelled from village to village chanting the tales of Mahabharata and Ramayan and used these as a mini theatre for story telling.
A box at the bottom of the Kavaad was used to collect coins once the story was over.
This Kavaad is handcrafted by Shri Dwarka Prasad, a national award winning artisan known for his craftsmanship and keeping this mid century tradition alive.
