The exquisite oil lamp or Sukunda has been crafted by skilled artisans atop a beautifully decorated elephant in a sitting position wearing ceremonial robes .
Surrounded by 3 oil lamps with engraving, the Sukunda is both a pot for holding oil and the lamp for lighting where the flame burns in front of an image of Lord Ganesh, remover of obstacles and the Hindu God of Wisdom and Knowledge.
The figure of the snake god with the 3 headed snake hood can be seen as a protective umbrella just above the pot of oil.
