The Gajalakshmi Vilakku, a traditional Kerala oil lamp with Lakshmi - Goddess of wealth surrounded by 9 oil lamps or diyas is crafted in solid brass with beautiful peacocks on either side and a delicately crafted filigree prabhavali making this lamp even more graceful.
This exquisite lamp is often used in the worship of Goddess Bhagavathi (goddess in Sanskrit) which is the general way people refer to the Hindu goddesses in Kerala, Goa and Maharashtra states of India. It can be used to refer any of the Hindu goddesses like Durga, Kannaki, Parvati, Saraswati, Lakshmi and Kali.
Always an integral part of the prayer room, these lamps are lit during dusk for prayer with the reverence for the lamp based on the symbolism of the journey from darkness and ignorance into light and the knowledge of the ultimate reality.
