This is a wood sculpture / carving of the Indian Goddess Lakshmi with her four hands sitting on a lotus flower hand carved from a single block of local raintree wood by the most skilled artisans from Tamil Nadu, South India.
Lakshmi is the wife and Shakti (energy) of Vishnu, one of the principal deities of Hinduism and the Supreme Being in the Vaishnism Tradition. With Parvati and Saraswati, she forms Trivedi, the holy trinity.
Lakshmi is one of the most beloved Indian deities and is worshipped as the Goddess of wealth, prosperity and considered most auspicious during Deepavali - festival of lights and new beginnings.
