This vintage pair of brass door handles with the Nandi bull and exquisite floral motifs in brass and copper finish are perfect examples of the famous Dhokra craft handcrafted by Damar tribes, the traditional metal smiths of West Bengal and Odisha using a technique of lost wax casting named after their tribe, hence known as the Dhokra metal casting
The Nandi Bull as per Hindu Mythology is the vehicle for the Lord Shiva and is the bearer of truth and righteousness . Known as the God of skies & destruction, Shiva with Nandi is one of the oldest forms of Hindu representation - dating before 3000 BC.
The door handles display fine detailing representing this ancient craft which can be seen on the handles engraved with traditional floral motifs and the smooth semi circular shape for ease and comfort of grip.
Handcrafted, using the lost wax casting method , these handles can be installed on any surface / door / cupboard with just 2 screws on either side of the handle marked with the holes.
