Vintage Coconut Scraper Carved From A Single Block Of Wood. L 60 x W 9 cm x Ht 6 cm
This vintage rare coconut scraper from the Southern state of Chettinad is beautifully crafted from a single block of wood representing the rich cultural heritage and gracious living of a bygone era and the Nattukottai Chettiars.
The scraper with two main aspects has a wooden seating arrangement on one end and the front of the block is called a Peetha in Sanskrit to which an iron rod in the shape of a serpent with raised hood is attached.
The iron hood is the scraper with serrated edges and positioned to allow the coconut scrapings to fall into a bowl kept directly underneath.
This coconut scraper is a beautiful reminder of gracious living representing the rich cultural heritage, remarkable taste for good food, regal lifestyle, art and architecture of the Chettiars.
