Vintage Wooden Pallanghuzi Board Game With 14 Pits - L 41 cm x W 14 cm x H 10 cm

This vintage wooden board handcrafted from a single block of local wood with 14 pits traditionally known as Pallanghuzi or Pallankuli is an ancient Tamil Mancala mind game played especially in Tamil Nadu and later spread to other parts of south India as far as Sri Lanka and Malaysia.

The game is played by two players, with a wooden board that has fourteen pits in all from where the name has been derived - pathinaalam kuzhi with 7 pits on each players side. The pits contain cowry shells, seeds or small pebbles used as counters.

As the game proceeds, each player distributes the shells over all the pits. The players may capture the shells, as permitted by the rules of the game. The rules of capture depend on the variant of the game played. The game ends when one of the players captures all the shells, and is declared as a winner.

This game is popular among the kids and old people and was encouraged for the kids to learn to count, to improve eye–hand coordination and concentration while playing. And for the older people of the house, to spend time in the company of the young members of the family.
