In Hinduism, the Shankha or Conch is a sacred emblem of the Hindu preserver God Vishnu.
This exquisitely engraved shankha also known as the Kala Gurjari shankha and hand crafted from solid brass by skilled Indian artisans with a rich antique finish placed on a tortoise shape stand and can be found in most temples, prayer rooms, traditionally blown during celebrations, weddings and festivals by the head of the house or the temple priest.
Though still used as a trumpet in Hindu rituals, such Shankhas were used as a war trumpets and have been praised in Hindu scriptures as a giver of fame, longevity and prosperity, the cleanser of sin and the abode of Lakshmi - the goddess of wealth and consort of Vishnu.
The exquisite Shankha stand is designed to hold varied Shankhs such as Dakshinavarti Shankh, Heera Shankh, Ganesh Shankh to name a few and is traditionally kept in the east corner of the home or Puja Altar along with the Shankh.
