Traditionally known as a Thooku-Vilakku - "Hanging Lamp" in Malayalam with an amazing copper and gold patina and a thick link chain, the lamp is handcrafted with 7 grooves for lighting the lamp with oil and wicks and the bottom level for the dripping oil using the process of metal casting as per traditional practises by skilled artisans.
Always an integral part of the prayer room, the presence of such lamps still remains an important aspect of ritual worship offered to a deity based on the symbolism of the journey from darkness and ignorance, to light and the knowledge of the ultimate reality – 'Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya!.
