From our Vintage collection - This traditional Idli steamer or Patra is handcrafted in excellent quality brass and is said to have belonged to one of the Chettiyar royal family households from the South of India.
The steamer comprises of a large deep bowl for water with inserts and a cover with a knob. The 2 inserts with 7 circular idli moulds are stacked on top of each other and then covered with the lid allowing seven idlis to steam at a time.
Idlis are steamed rice cakes, commonly served for breakfast where the batter is prepared overnight with an addition of aromatic herbs which is poured into the moulds and finally steamed over a stove to be consumed with freshly prepared sambhar and coconut chutney.

The idli plates have 2 circular plates having 4 and 3 moulds each to steam 7 idlis at a time.
