'Dashavatar' - Ten Incarnations Of Vishnu Handcrafted In Wood. Ht 100 cm x W 10 cm x D 5 cm

A magnificent pair of vertical wooden handcrafted wall panels known as " Dashavatar" depicting the ten primary incarnations or Avatars of Vishnu - The Creater of the Universe as per hindu mythology.

Beautifully sculpted and chiselled by hand from single blocks of local wood with a natural walnut finish by skilled artisans from Tamil Nadu, South India, the word Dashavatara derives from Das, meaning’Ten’ and Avatar (avatra), meaning’incarnation.

Each of these panels refer to the the mythological story of the 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu who descend to the terrestrial world to establish stability and order, time and again.

The list of Dashavatara varies across sects and regions as Krishna, Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana, Parashurama, Sri Rama, Balarama and Kalki.
