This is an exquisite and colourful hand made Madhubani painting of Lord Krishna with the Gopis.

Madhubani paintings - This style of painting originated during the days of the Ramayana and has been hand made as per century old traditions by the village tribal women living in the present town of Madhubani (the literal meaning of which is Forests of honey).

The figures are painted in all natural plant based colours which are bright yet earthy tones. As per tradition, stories from the Ramayan and nature were painted on freshly plastered mud wall of huts, but now are painted on fabric, hand-made paper and canvas.

The theme of Madhubani art revolves around Nature, Indian Mythology and Hindu deities depicting nature with flowers, animals, birds, geometric designs and Dieties from the Ramayan like Ram and Sita , Lord Krishna , processions.
