Nagas, or snake deities in Hindu mythology— represent rebirth, fertility, wisdom, and knowledge. Shesha, king of the Nagas, is said to hold all the planets on his hoods. He floats in the cosmic ocean, his massive, many headed body forming the bed where Vishnu rests. Manasa is the queen of the snakes. Nāg Panchamī is a snake-worshiping festival still celebrated in parts of India.
